Margaret Bywater has been a professional librarian for more than 50 years, working in Libraries in Australia and Cambodia. For five years commencing in mid-1986, Mrs. Bywater headed the Quaker team responsible for the Australian funded English language-teaching program at the University of Phnom Penh. Since 1992, Margaret has devoted herself to the development of libraries and information resources in Cambodia. She has been based at Hun Sen Library, Royal University of Phnom Penh. Her activities include designing training programs, training librarians and encouraging Cambodians to gain access to information through the use of books, libraries, and in more recent years, the Internet and digital collections. She has helped to organize library and information systems and documentation, build capacity, and vastly expand library collections, in a wide range of government and non-government institutions in Cambodia. Currently, she is developing a digital and print Library for the Parliamentary Institute of Cambodia and providing Library service for PIC researchers, fellows, and interns. Margaret is an avid reader and has spent her career encouraging others to appreciate the delights of reading.
